What are verrucas?
Caused by a virus that creates a reaction in the upper layers of the skin, in many cases they disappear on their own over time. However depending on location and severity they can cause pain or discomfort and therefore treatment is often requested. As always, we’re keen to be honest and let you know there’s no one single treatment that is 100% guaranteed to clear them. However there are a number of treatment types.

How can they be treated?
You may have heard of some of the treatment methods. These include using liquid nitrogen - or an acid - to stimulate an immune response. Other techniques are needling, or laser therapy. As verruca are caused by a virus, all of these have different success rates and - honestly - different levels of discomfort during treatment. We offer two different approaches at Clockhouse Podiatry, one of these is 'Swift' which uses the latest microwave technology and is showing incredible results. We also use a topical treatment too (VerruTop) which in some cases can be preferred by patients. You can read more about these below.

Swift Microwave Treatment

The latest verrucae treatment, Swift, provides a precise, highly effective, fast and easy solution to treating verrucas. It is less painful than traditional methods and has excellent outcomes even for stubborn lesions making it the most effective treatment available. Quick, no needles, no aftercare or dressings, scientifically proven verruca treatment.

Microwave energy can be used very accurately to increase tissue temperature to a point that causes precise, localised cell destruction, killing the virus and stimulating an immune response and combating the virus.

TREATMENT
Is it uncomfortable?

Swift is a lot less uncomfortable than many other methods such as freezing or using acids to create a response, however due to the nature of the treatment there can be a short discomfort. It's best described as a short sharp sensation such as an injection. However this only lasts for 1-2 seconds, subsides very quickly, and is only felt during the short application.

TREATMENT
How many treatments will I need?

Three treatments are most common, but depends on how you respond as every patient is different. We normally deliver an initial treatment, then a follow up treatment four weeks later. After this, another treatment can be considered. What's important is that there is a gap between treatments which allows the immune response to fight the verruca.

TREATMENT
Can you guarantee success?

As above there is no guarantees with any treatment, however all studies ae showing an incredible success rate of around 80% with Swift treatment. You can read more about the studies that have been undertaken by following the links below.

Do you just treat one verruca at a time?

Verruca often appear in clusters. During Swift treatment we will generally be able to treat all verruca that you might have, even if they're across both of your feet.

PRICES AND TREATMENT
Sounds perfect - how much does it cost?

We are highly competitive with cost of Swift treatment with each treatment session costing £120. This includes the consultation cost as well - so this is the full price paid during the each treatment which lasts about 20 minutes. It's also worth pointing out that we often find that people have spent considerably more attempting to treat verruca across several years without success.

ANOTHER TREATMENT OPTION

VerruTop - topical treatment

It might be that a different approach for verruca is preferred, and therefore we also offer a lower-priced option as well - Verrutop™. This is a topical solution for professional use which provides treatment of verrucas and warts that can be effective in just a few applications.

How does it work?
The treatment works with a combination of chemicals to again create an immune response in the body. There can be a short-lived tingling discomfort when this applied, which disappears after a few seconds.

What success rate does it have?
Slightly less effective than Swift treatment, around 55% of patients see verrucas becoming reduced after a maximum of six sessions.

How much does it cost?
The total cost of each Verrutop treatment is £40 - which is the cost of the application session (£25 for 20 minutes) and the cost of the Verrutop solution (£15) per application.

How many sessions will I need
Most people need 3-6 sessions, and that each session should be carried out between one and two weeks apart from each other.
